In Time of Calamity

O God, merciful and compassionate, who art ever ready to hear the prayers of those who put their trust in thee; Graciously hearken to us who call upon thee, and grant us thy help in this our need; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

In light of present circumstances, Archbishop Upham and the Council of Bishops have thought it prudent to suspend all Public Services through 2 April 2020, when they will reevaluate. In the meantime, it is necessary that we continue to pray, as Fr. Shannon wrote in an email to our parishioners:

On Sundays, I ask everyone to pray Morning Prayer (p.3) and the Litany (p. 54). The lessons and Psalms for morning prayer are:

Psalm 71

Deuteronomy 18:15

Luke 20:9-18

If you have difficulty, go to and select “This Week’s Prayers,” then choose the appropriate day (29 March is Lent Five, Sunday Morning). A priest will read the service of morning prayer, and you can follow along in your Prayer Book. If you do not have a Book of Common Prayer, please call Fr. Shannon.

Anyone who needs to receive the sacraments of Unction or Holy Communion during this time should also call Fr. Shannon.

Let us remember to help those less fortunate, including one another, during this time. Some may be unable, or ill-advised, to go out in search of necessary supplies. Let others know, and someone will shop for you. Others may have trouble finding items in short supply. Let others know, and, if they spot those items in stock, they could call or text you to determine if you would like them to purchase the item(s) for you.

Finally, let us remember to be faithful in all things, including our tithes and offerings. These can be dropped off at the church, or mailed to Holy Comforter, 135 Ashville Circle, Montevallo, AL 35115, ATTN: Stan Graham.
